Infant Chiropractor for reflux treatment??
Hi I am new to this website & I am looking for some help. My son is 10 weeks old & has been diagnosed with reflux. He is on Axid & Prevacid but neither seem to be helping. Someone suggested a chiropractor & I am doing some research to see if this really helps. If someone has any experience with the same issue & has used or is using a chiropractor to help with reflux I would like to have your opinion.
Thanks,

I've heard chiropracthers can do wonders, but if the meds aren't working try changing the formula. My daughter was diagnosed with relflux, but the worse problem was protien sensitivity. She can't have milk, soy, or any corn product. Which is actually more common then you might think. The only formula on the market that doesn't contain all 3 is Alimentum in the ready to feed form, if you're breastfeeding, eliminate all from your diet. Be careful corn is in everything! If you've tried that and there is still problems, Let us all know how the chiroprcter worked for you. At this point anything would be worth a try! Good Luck!

Thanks! We have him on RTF Alimentum now(after changing his formula 3 times) & it has helped with his protein sensitivity. I did not know that formulas contained corn until I read someones post on this website. I have wondered why my 3 month old did not like the powder formula. Now I know why.
We did take him to the Chiropractor about a week ago and so far the results have been good. His reflux has gotten a little better. The Chiropractor did tell us that it may take up to 3 visits. I will definetly be taking him back for more visits because he has also been diagnosed with having Torticollis in his neck which has caused a flat spot on the right side of his head. The Chiropractor said he can fix that as well. I guess they can work wonders.
Thanks,

I am glad to hear that you took your baby to the chiropractor. My daughter had acid reflux, and it was miserable until I took her to the chiropractor. She is completely cured now. She was just involved in a car accident, and I am so thankful to have the chiropractor becuase he is getting her straightened out after the wreck. Many people do not feel comfortable with chiropractic care for infants, but I am a firm believer. I am constantly being told that my girl is the happiest baby people know, and she was not this way until she started going to the chiropractor!

I am sorry to hear that your daughter was in an accident. I hope that she is well now. Accidents are such a scary thing & even more scary when you have your kids in the car. How old is she? How many times did you take her to the chiropractor for her reflux? So far we have only taken our son 1 time & he is doing so much better. I don't think he really needs to go for anymore visits right now. I am hoping he will outgrow it soon and we can take him off of the medications. Thank you for replying to my thread.

Thank you for your concern. My daughter was in my in-law's van and it was rear ended and was completely totalled. She is 8 1/2 months.
After I would say three treatments she did not need her medication anymore for the reflux. I noticed because I forgot to give it to her a couple of times and she was totally fine.
I take her now whenever she starts getting fussy and having troulbe sleeping. Every once in a while she starts spitting up really bad and that is when I know she needs to go for the hernia. THis does not hardly happen anymore.
Right now she is going a lot but that is becuase of the accident, and thankfully we do not need to pay for it, since the van was rearended.

chiropractor and reflux
Hi, I just joined this site, so I am not sure how it works. I read that you took your children to chiropractor. Did it really work? I have a 12 week old baby girl and she has reflux. she is on prevacid now, but I don' t think that it is working. She was on Zantac before. She is not gaining as much weight as the doctor wants her to, even though she is in 75% perecentile. They want to put her on Reglan, but I hear the side effects are horrible. My middle child had reflux but she was fine just on zantac. Then I heard about chiropractor for infants, I am taking her in next week. I really hope it works. Please if anyone had success with it, let me know. Also, what should I expect at the first appt.

Yes, I take my daughter. I started taking her when she was two months old. I already had a relationship with the chiropractor as I am a current patient, but all he did was listen to me about what her symptoms were, and then he basically massaged her back. She slept through the entire adjustment. also, for the reflux he did a massage deal on her tummy that put her tummy back where it belongs. NOt all chiropractors do that technique.
Now, my daughter cries a little when she is adjusted, but I think it is because she is very active, and the adjustment requires me to hold her still. I do not think it hurts because as soon as it is over, she is fine. I think it might be a little uncomfortable when they find the area that is out.
Sometimes he uses a device called an activator. This is basically a "clicker" that is placed on the vertebrea to realign them. Hard to explain, but more precise than using your hand.
We had great success. After two treatments i forgot to give her her Zantac and she was fine, so I know it worked. Now she is medication free and one of the happiest babies I know (And, as a mom of a reflux baby, I know what I am talking about. She has not always been happy!)

chiropractor
We took our 11 week old (now 13 weeks) to see a chiropractor that had been recommended to us that specializes in colic in Northern Virginia. We sadly didn't see much improvement. But it didn't hurt to try and it distracted us from the crying. Good luck!

We aren't sure the extent of our daughter's reflux. She was on Zantac and Prevacid for several weeks and her crying did not improve. She does spit up on occassion and has hiccups a lot but unclear really how bad reflux is. The GI pediatrician took her off the reflux meds b/c he didn't think it was helping. We thicken her Allimentum bottles with Rice Cereal. We saw a bit of relief there, but she still cries a lot.

my other daughter was zantac. it was bad between 3 to 4 months and then we started solids and it went away by 8 months of age. So it does get better. My youngest daughter is on Prevacid now, but I don't think it works. Cereal in the bottle does work some. Just know, it gets better even though it doesn't seem like it now.

going to chiropracter- lots of hope
I am going to see a chiropractor today - this is our second visit and my son Cole (5 weeks - reflux since about 2 weeks old) did not cry through the fist visit which is incredible but he is always better at the doctors office - making me look entirely looney about all my claims that he screams all day....
He had been on Zantac for about a week with no result so now his is on prevacid. I stopped the Prevacid for 2 days because I wondered if he really needed it and he got MUCH worse at feeding time and has been on the verge of a screaming tantrum all day long everyday. He is back on the prevacid now and this is day two. Also visit two to the chiropractor today. I am close to at my wits end. He is so beautiful but so unhappy. My husband who is trying to stay patient has begun to call the baby "Psycho" especially after feeding him in the middle of the night when the screaming really kicks up. I had a feeling that what Cole had was not "Colic" at diagnosed by my pediatrician but more that that. He wakes up from naps screaming and always wants to nurse. Poor boy. Will post back after chiropractor today.
