Hi,
My daughter is 3 months old and I believe she has reflux. She is on her 5th formula, Carnation and there has been a huge improvement. She now only occasionally has screaming spells (which we were originally told was colic and told she would outgrow). She does choke a couple of times a day, coughs and fights terribly during feedings and is very restless at night. Feeding is not a happy time.

Although she no longer screams at night she often has a difficult time staying alseep. When she wakes I can rock her and she falls back to sleep immediately but it is never for that long. During these times, her stomach growls so loud and she sounds very congested. She does want to sleep but often is jerked awake with gas and such a loud stomach.

I do thicken her formula during her nightime feedings with 1 tsp of rice cereal. I also sometimes give her mylicon drops which seem to work only some of the time. My doctor suggested giving her adult mylanta. She is gaining an appropriate amount of weight and he said he could refer us to a specialist if the problem continued but like I said she is 90% better which I think is probably a combination of the cereal, formula and her age.

My concern about using the mylanta is the aluminum. Is anyone using an aluminum free antacid, if so which one? I know I can read the labels but I don't know if all are safe for infants. My pediatrician has not been helpful in the least and I am currently searching for another one.

I apologize if this has already been addressed but I don't have much time on the computer these days to do a search.
thanks for the help

Hi, I don't know which antacids are aluminum free. Although I thought there was another antacid that you could give infants...I saw it on this site. I think it is listed in the reflux diagnosis and treatment area, the first post?

Finding another pediatrician should help. I have been lucky. My pediatrician has been very supportive and helpful. She had a colicky baby herself. Empathy is a great thing.

Good luck. :)
