Someone suggested that my 4 and a half month old son may be having silent reflux becos he would cry whenever he sees the bottle and will only drink his milk when he is half asleep. He's been like this from 2 mths old. Does anyone have this problem?:sleep2

I actually know a few mothers whose babies will only drink their milk when they are half asleep. The PD says that hyperactive babies are like that becos they are too distracted by the surroundings.

Also, he has been drinking less recently - only about 4 bottle feeds a day and about 60ml to 90ml each time, which is inedequate. I have started him on brown rice and wheat cereals and he could swallow already.:puh

My husband made mashed potato (with milk) this morning - is this advisable? I am worried that his immature digestive system might not be able to take the potatos.

Because of his "bottle refusal", I have to give him more cereal and semi-solid feeds. Any advice is appreciated.

How does he act while he's eating? Does he arch his back, squirm, or try to push the bottle away? Read the "reflux in infants" sticky on this forum. See if he has any of those symptoms.

Also, my son will definitely eat better when sleepy.

I don't know about the potatoes, though. I would discuss it with the doctor if you feel he isn't eating enough.

I would hold off on the potatoes for awhile.

Did you try a different nipple?

Oddbird,

He does not squirm but turns his head away and uses his hand to push the bottle away.

I told my DH to hold off the potatoes for the time being but I don't think my DS has any reaction to it.

Sometimes my son will squirm if he is trying to pass gas or is having a bowel movement. Burping often during feeding is a good idea. Sometimes after a good burp they will settle down and eat again.
