HELLO ALL!!! I WOULD LOVE EVERYONE'S INPUT AND STORIES ABOUT THE USE OF REGLAN. MY ERIK NOW 4 MTHS WAS STARTED ON ZANTAC AND NUTRAMIGEN WITH CEREAL ADDED ON 1/21 HE WAS DOING WELL AND I THOUGHT WE WERE BETTER. WELL ON 2/1 ALL THE SPITTING UP CRYING , AND FUSSYNESS RETURNED. THE PAST FOUR DAYS FELT LIKE WE HAD GONE BACK 2 MTHS. ANYWAY I CALLED PED TODAY AND THEY STARTED ERIK ON REGLAN EVERY 6 HRS AND I AM TO CONTINUE THE ZANTAC. ANY INPUT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL. ALSO TO GIVE MED EVERY 6 HRS I AM PLANNING ON GIVING AT 6AM NOON 6PM THEN MIDNIGHT BUT HE IS USUALLY ASLEEP BY 10 OR 11 WHAT TIME SCHEDULE ARE OTHER PEOPLE USING?

Hi,
Just a quick response. My daughter was on zantac and reglan for about three weeks and things actually semed to get worse after the first week, especially with the reglan. It was also hard to keep her on a regular dosage schedule because her eating times still fluctuate quite a bit. Also, it seemed to be giving her stomach aches and cramps about 15-20 minutes after she took it. I also didn't like how spaced out it made her.She had very few facial expressions and did very little cooing and babbling. Two days after she was off of it and on Prilosec we were seeing smiles, giggles and cooing again. The Prilosec is helping but she still seems pretty uncomfortable at times.

I guess you will just have to see. Others have had luck with Zantac and Reglan. Hopefully you will get some more responses. I had a previous thread started asking the same question--maybe you could find that and look at the responses I received. Good Luck.

We're on Zantac and Reglan also. I don't think it's doing too much. Nothing for my daughter; little for my son (twins). We see a specialist tomorrow. I want them put on Prilosec. I hope they are old enough. They are 9 wks old.

I havent been able to decide whether the Reglan is good or makes things worse. The dad says after a "reglan feeding" hes much more irritable. But that could just be the reflux. When I saw the ped gi he was positive the reglan wasnt causing the problem b/c what I as giving grayson was too little. The bgi then increased it and put grayson on prilosec as well. Im still in a state of confusion as to the whole t hing. And to make matters worse, I missed my follow-up gi appt. I thought I would get a reminder b/c ive had so much on my plate-but noone called. I feel terrible now and will call first thing monday morning. I just cant decide on the use of the reglan.

Just wanted to give my input on the reglan. When my daughter was first "diagnosed" with reflux (before the colic diagnosis) we started her on zantac. When that didn't seem to work our ped. added the reglan. I swore it made her scream almost all day long, we actually ended up in the ER. (of course, i didn't realize it was the reglan quite then) After i stopped the reglan for the weekend, my ped was also sure that the reglan wouldn't cause stomach upset, and he had us start it up again. AGAIN, she screamed all day. That is when we figured it out. Prilosec wasn't as bad, but it also made her much crankier, and very hard to calm. We went back to just zantac, and she is now almost 8 months old and still on one dose a day and doing fine. Her colic ended around 17 weeks old, but the GI specialist had us keep her on the zantac until she is consuming more solids. She has about a month to go and then we are going to stop. I just wanted to tell you our story because i was really irritated when my ped. said there was NO WAY the reglan was making her worse and he was dead wrong. As parents, you know your child best. It was very obvious to us after we stopped the reglan and after that, prilosec...so you might want to try just zantac or no meds and see how your baby acts...or at least if they are easier to calm, because with colic they are never going to be quiet :)
Also, a dose every 6 hours seems like a lot...and it would be silly to wake your baby up for it.
good luck!
