My son is on Zantac and Reglan. I took him off of the Reglan because of all the bad things that I have read on this site. Since I took him off of Reglan he is miserable and spitting up a ton again. My girlfriend's son is on Donnatal and Prilosec. Does anyone have experience with these? Also, does anyone have any success with Reglan. I callled the pharmacist and he said that it is a very good medicine for reflux. Very confused!

My son was on Zantac and Reglan as well. I have heard similar things about the reglan and have taken him off of it and kept him on Zantac alone. When I went to the pharmacy to pick up another Rx, I asked the pharmacist about Reglan and he said that it does have side effects. In the 2 or 3 wks. that he was on Reglan, though, he showed no side effects. I am confused as well, but I felt very unsure of the Reglan!

I went back to the GI today. He increased the dose of Zantac and if that works we are going to try to take him off of Reglan. He said that there are side effects of Reglan but only if used in larges doses. He said my son is on a small dose but still wants to get him off. If Zantac does not work, he is going to try Prilosec.

OUr GI doc actually likes the Prilosec and Prevacid better than Zantac, side effect wise. Good Luck-hope your litte one feels better soon.

Be careful of Donnatal -it tends to make your child very drowsy-NB it contains ALCOHOL! Also another ingredient is "Belladonna" which is a natural sedative, but an accumulative effect can become toxic to the system (although nobody tells YOU that, because they want to sell the product!) Our daughter Julia is now 11weeks old and was suffering from colic and reflux from the age of 3wks. The Donnatal though is actually supposed to be prescibed for Colic as it actually (in our experience) made the reflux worse. Julia actually became "addicted" to it and couldn't wait to have the next dose- so much so that her eyes actually started rolling in her head and our paeditrician said this was all fine!?! Anyway we weaned her off over a month ago and the reflux is better. We took her to a chiropractor who attends to small babies and her colic is 90% better she's been sleeping through 8-10 hrs at night since 6wks. Whatever you decide to do - try not to use Donnatal (in our opinion) it was a complete waste of time, money and the worst is we still don't know what damage it might have done as it upset her stomach as well with constipation one minute and diarhorrea the next.
Good Luck.
