View Full Version : development
Has anyone been concerned about developmental delay? Did your children show milestones (i.e. smiling, playing, gazing) with all of the crying? All I see is crying and sleeping.
Hi Eav,
Sorry to hear that you are going through similar troubles as everyone on this website. A month in the NICU must have been extremely emotional and stressful. What a blessing that you're baby is home now.
In terms of developmentally, my daughter screamed and cried for the first 7 months of her life and was actually ahead of others in terms of development. She walked at 9 months, was eating extremely well early, plays well, etc etc. They say that colic kids are quicker than many because they spend so much more time awake than there cohorts that they interact more with grownups and learn faster. I'm sure you won't have anything to worry about.
In terms of your other post. It certainly could be silent reflux, hopefully the once they do the test they will let you know. I don't know what a "fundo" is? I assume it has something to do with the fundus?? Please let me know.
Take care and hang in there, it will get better!

Cary-
Thanks for the reply. I sit here wondering what to do on an hourly basis. We have only seen a smile while sleeping and he is not cooing either..just a grumpy baby all of the time or sleeping.
The fundo is a fundoplication...wrapping part of the stomach around the esophagus to stop reflux. It concerns me because it will prevent him from throwing up and may cause more reflux issues for some time.
My son is also currently on a nasogastric tube due to poor sucking coordination. He has since developed an aversion to the bottle in our attempt to switch..due to the refulx is my assumption. Of course no Dr. has talked to me about this. They have given no answers to any of my concerns.
I apprecitate the support.
Eav,
It sounds like you've got a lot on your plate. I wonder if most babies have trouble switching to bottle after using NG tubes?? Does baby like a pacifier? I'm just trying to think of things to encourage sucking... I would think that a lot of NG babies would have reflux troubles because if the milk goes directly to the stomach then there esophageal sphincter muscle wouldn't get used so they wouldn't learn to open/close it would they??
I think you really should find a good doctor to sit down with and discuss all these issues, they are very important decisions and questions you have and they need to be explained properly. I'll do some web searching to see if I can find anything on fundo.... and switching from ng to bottle.
You hang in there,
Cary
