I have posted other threads here, but I have a new question. I have taken my son to a GI doc and he was diagnosed with reflux. He spits up a lot while eating and afterwards and cries a lot, too. I know he has colic and we have tried everything. He was on Zantac in the beginning, but I didn't like it and neither did he. We didn't give it much of a chance though.
Now, he is on Prilosec. and I feel like he is progressively getting worse. I am completely frustrated right now. I have changed his formula numerous times and none of them have made any kind of difference.
Has anyone been on Prilosec and seen there baby worsen over time? I feel like each week is getting worse since we put him back on it. He is on a more compounded version of the medicine, but I have no clue if that matters. He wasn't great with the first round of Prilosec either.
Are there any other mediciations? I know he has colic but this is bad. He is beginning to scream bloody murder again and seems to be in pain. He is on Alimentum and Prilosec, so I don't know what it could be. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Hi Ladybug,

We had a terrible time with Prilosec and had to stop it after 14 days. It really constipated our daughter and she was miserable. It's really strong and inhibits 90% of acid formulation so for babies a lot of the food can move to the small intestine undigested because they isn't much acid in the stomach to break it down. Little babies have trouble digesting with their small intestine because they're not mature enough so that's why they sometimes get constipated and uncomfortable.

Our pediatrician said that she wasn't surprised that the Prilosec gave us trouble and that she found that with other babies.

We ended up not using anything, but our baby was older 6 months and she improved by 7 months on her own.

I hope this helps.

Take care,
Cary
