Hi, is there anyone out there whose child was prescribed two 15mg packets of Preavid a day. My baby is 3-1/2 months old and she has acid reflux. Our family Dr. we were initially seeing put her on one packet of prevacid a day when she was 3 weeks old, and also switched her formula to Alimentum. She improved but was still very fussy and hard to feed and was not sleeping well. He then changed her dose to two packets a day and she improved greatly. She started sleeping through the night, her breath did not smell acidy and she was not spitting up hardly ever. My husband and I were not happy with this doctor for other reasons so we just switched pediatricians. Our new Dr. is not comfortable prescribing 2 packets a day unless the infant has been seen by an gastrointestinologist. So she switched her to one packet a day and put her on Reglan 3 times a day. She has regressed and is doing much worse. So now we have to see a specialist, so in the meantime my baby has to suffer. I was just wondering if anyone else has children on two packets a day or if ithis is something that is not normally practiced????

I do not know the correct dosage, my son was on Tagamet and Reglan. I researched and found that only the doctors can tell you what the preffered dosage should be depending on the age and weight of the child. Sorry, I wish I could be more help there.

I know that Reglan works well for some but not for others. Read up on all of the side effects and if your baby is doing that much worse now you may need to consider that she may be reacting to the Reglan as well. I do not want to scare you, my son did fine on it, but I have heard from others that some babies do not do as well. I think it is worth checking in to. Maybe you can try a day without the Reglan and see if she reacts better, same or worse. (This is just my suggestion)

I definetely think you will benefit greatly once you see the upper GI ped. They are usually very helpful and they are willing to do much more for these babies then the normal peds because they just know so much more about reflux and the treaments out there. So, hang in there.

*On a side note, if she still has trouble feeding (arches and turns) you may want to read about Sandifer's Syndrome. My son had that and I was able to treat it with a massage treatment.

I personally think that each baby with reflux has different levels of problem, some only have a minor acid reflux where other babies are producing much more acid and may require that much of the medication to releive the problem. I think what the doctors may be afraid of is covering up with too much meds any other possible problem that is the real cause to why she may have such an acid problem that requires her to need more of a dose. Sometimes the esophogas is not fully developed, etc. They can do testing if needed but once you see the GI doc you will feel better, they will know what to do.

Hope this helps some....:)
