Help!!! I have a 6 week old baby the doctor thinks he has acid reflux and he is having an upper GI on Monday. They have him on pepcid and he seems worse... He will only eat 2oz at a time and eats every 2hrs.. he only sleeps 2 hours at a time during the night and during the day he hardly sleeps for more than 15min.
He also acts like he might have colic because he gets very fussy and crying every night around the same time and it lasts for 3-4 hours. This is our first baby and we are very stressed out the doctor doesn't seem to be concerned about anything we tell him
and I know this can't be normal for a baby to act like he is in pain all the time. He has severe gas and hiccups all the time. Any advice??
Hi,
I hope that you get some answers with the Upper GI today. I think a lot of babies have a combination of acid reflux and colic. I too always wondered what was wrong, how could a baby be so miserable , screaming in pain and what was I doing wrong. It was also my first and I vowed ..last!
We tried everything we could think of. I had a fantastic husband who shared equally in everything and together we survived six months. We used to take turns walking around and around the house with Jill in a Snugli carrier, after about 15 minutes of screaming she would usually dose off to sleep for 20-30 minutes so at least it gave our ears a little break.
At night we would take shifts so that one of us was responsible for 4 hours at a time and the other would try and get some sleep. We used to sleep Jill on our chests and pat her back all night long because she was so gassy. She never ever slept on her back until about 7 months, she always prefered her stomach, I think it was much more comfortable when they're full of gas and we didn't worry about SIDS because she could hold her head up at 6 weeks.
Try to keep your sanity and I hope that you have a helping husband. It will get better for sure.
Take care,
Cary

Cary,
Thanks so much for your reply. We found out this morning Justin has acid reflux and something called Delayed Clearance so we go back to the hospital on August 11th for another scan called Gastric Emptying Scan so I am really depressed now I just wish we could have a normal day. It is so hard to see your baby in pain all the time. It is strange I never knew how much you could love somebody until now. I am with you though I don't think I will have any more children I am 35 and this has been very stressful. Keep in touch and thanks for the Support!!
I'm glad that the doctor was helpful. I found this website about Delayed Clearance and Reflux, there are a few treatment tips although I'm sure that your doctor has already talked to you about them:

I really hope that your baby feels better soon. I remember thinking that the screaming was lasting an eternity and everyone who visit would say isn't time just flying by and I would say, no it isn't!
Hang in there.
Cary
