Hi. Did you find that your babies congestion got better once they were on reflux medication? Or does congestion always remain a symptom of reflux?

I just started my 10 week son on Zantac. I am still unsure whether or not he has reflux - if he does it is silent reflux. He has some symptoms, but it is hard to tell. He definitely has colic and problems with gas, and has a very small rectum so he has problems pooping. He has been on Alimentum for over a month and I have seen a slight improvement with his digestion.

I have taken him to the ped's several times regarding his congestion. He is very congested, especially at night and seems like he is choking on it. When the ped looks in his nose, throat & ears they are unable to see anything and think that it might therefore be reflux related. I know the Zantac takes 2 weeks to fully kick in but I am worried that I am doing more harm than good. I am not sure how I will know if the Zanatc is actually helping him or making things worse. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks
Amy

My son was congested from day 1 as well. I remember at night it was the worst, I could barley feed him because he could not breathe. He has reflux and colic. Because you mention your baby has colic be careful not to thicken his formula. I used the Alimentum for the colic and that worked fine for him. I also had my son on medicine for reflux.

In time my son's congestion got better. It was very frustrating though because the peds would do nothing for his congestion either. They just looked at me like I was a complainer. All I could do was use a cool mist humidifier and saline drops. I did find a simple massage for him that helped a little as well.

One thing you may want to consider is Chiropractic Care for newborns. I was skeptical at first but I wanted to do anything to help my son. I took him at 3 weeks old, this was the best thing I did. It helps with colic, reflux, congestions, ear infections and more. You just need to make sure you find an experienced chiropratcor. I was so touched by what they did for my son that I made a website. I am currently building a database of experienced chiropractors, but it is so new that we are not posting lisitngs yet.

I hope that this helps some for you. I beleive that reflux and colic can be controlled, I have done so in my son, he is now 5 months old, still has reflux but does not seemed bothered by it at all any more. He is not "fussy" any more. He is mostly happy. Thank god!
