Newborn Massage Treatment for Infant Reflux:
Stretch your baby's arms up above their head. Do they both
come up to the same height or is one arm slightly lower than the other?
If one arm is slightly lower than I would suggest trying the following
massage treatment to help your baby with their possible reflux problem:
This is a simple technique you can learn and try on your newborn
if they are experiencing signs of "Infant Reflux". Simply find
the apex in the middle of their abdomen that is where the ribs
come together. This is directly above the stomach and below the
sternum. You will first feel a round ball type of object (which is normal).
Right below this take two fingers and gently massage down towards the
belly button.
What you may find is that the muscle is so tight above the stomach
of your baby that it is causing the stomach to constrict upwards
blocking the flow to the stomach. This muscle is like any other in
that it can be worked on and made to relax. Once you can get this
muscle stretched out and relaxed your baby will than have some
comfort and relief from the reflux problem.
It may take about 6 weeks of stretching this muscle but will then
heal for good and you will no longer need to massage it. Start out
massaging once in the morning and once at night (before you feed
your baby). Adjust accordingly to your babies needs.
This is an amazing technique which I have used on my own child.
If for any reason you do not feel comfortable with this or you
are not sure you understand these directions please consult
your pediatrician or infant chiropractor. I am sure your doctor
can help you with this and will probably have an opinion of their
own in this matter.
You can also e-mail with any questions. info@fussybaby.org
