My son is almost 8 weeks old. He has had colic since 2 weeks. Now I read some info on reflux and sounds like it could be what he has. He arches his back, doesn't sleep much, has lots of hiccups, lots of gas, seems to be upset while eating like his throat hurts or something, switched formula several times. I just bought nutramiagen tonight. He doesn't spit up a whole lot since he's been on soy. I think he over eats. He seems to eat a little all the time. Are these reflux symptoms??
will switching his formula help or will he have to be on medicine?
Help!!!
Yep, sounds like reflux for sure. Every kid is different and it's impossible to tell if switching formulas will help or whether he will need meds until you try it. The Nutramigen is a great place to start and should help quite a bit. If it doesn't then I would phone (or visit) the pediatrician and tell him the symptoms your son is having. More specifically I would mark down the symptoms of reflux and then mark down the symptoms your son is experiencing so he will understand why you suspect reflux. Then just ask to try some Zantac. Should help a great deal until he starts to mature and outgrow it.
Also, keep him propped up during and after feeds, and try feeding him less but more frequently through out the day.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for your input! I am taking my son in tomorrow, and I am going to discuss it with his ped. I have seen a little improvement since the switching formula but he still wants to sit up straight most of the time. Maybe the doc will know what to do!?

I hope that the doctor was able to help you on your last visit.
Tip: Try asking for baby Tagamet instead of Zantac. The Zantac taste was too strong for my baby and the tagamet was much easier to give him. Also ask for Reglan, it is a medicine to help pass the formula through as well. Neither have any bad side effects.
hope this helps....
