My son was born December 18th, 2003 and is the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Unfortunately, he seems to constantly be in pain. I attempted breastfeeding but had a blocked duct. So, we started him on Enfamil Lipil. My did not seem to deal well with that so the doctor had me switch him to Carnation Good Start. It seemed like he had diarrea with that so then they tried the "nutragamin?" He screamed on that so we switched him back to the Good Start. Nothing truly seemed to be helping and finally my doctor said he had reflux. So, I started with a teaspoon of cereal per ounce and mylanta 6 times a day. That also wasn't helping too much. He was only allowed three ounces every three hours and seemed like he was always hungry. He would cry for about an hour before feeding and cry after a feeding until he fell asleep. My doctor then recommended putting him on Zantac and I had never heard of that so I went to another doctor for a second opinion. He also said to do it but it didn't seem to help. Now he has me feeding him four ounces of formula (he's on Isomil Advance now) with 6-8 teaspoons of rice and continuing on the Zantac. He has a great day yesterday but is back to himself crying all day today. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there more I can be doing for him?

Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. Don't feel lonely though, that is what we are all hear for. I think if I were you and your insurance isn't to difficult to work with, get a referral to a Pediatric GI doctor. Does your baby spit up a lot or burp and swallow a lot? Just curious. Hang in there and let us know how you are doing!

No you aren't doing anything wrong at all. Reflux is very challenging to deal with.

Perhaps an increased dose of Zantac, or even switching to prilosec or prevacid may help...ask your ped.

Make sure to keep him propped up during and after his feedings.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply again. I don't exactly have much free time. Eric is now on Prilosec and doing much better. His pediatrician first put him on prevacid but he got horrible diarrehia and stomach pains. So I asked to be referred to a GI specialist. He then put him on prevacid and things have been wonderful. He actually smiles and laughs (and he's only two months old). He's constantly talking...and I have a few minutes a day to get thing done around the house. Being a single mom with a grouchy kid just wasn't evening out. Thanks for your help.
