Hi there. My baby has been struggling with reflux. We have tried Zantac, Reglan and now Prevacid. He is still spitting up often, but actually seems to have gained alot of weight while on Prevacid. Is that a side effect? I'm happy to see him growing of course :)
Is the Prevacid supposed to eliminate the spitting up or just ease the pain? I have to be so careful not to jostle him or it all comes up. I have these packets of powder and I have to add 30ml of water and give him 15ml a day. There are little tiny beads in there and I was curious about those. Do they dissolve once ingested? Thanks for any help or info.

my son was on prevacid for a long time and we saw such an improvement in his behaviour - more settled, sleeping better etc. i guess if your baby seems happy and settled then that is the most important thing. i dont think there is anything you can do for the projectile vomiting babies...the prevacid is more to block the acid so that the baby is not experiencing discomfort. not sure how old your baby is but you might find that thickened formula (with rice cereal) helps keep the milk down. as for the granules, i am in australia and that is the only way we could get the prevacid and it was a bit strange but i know that some of the moms over there have had the pharmacy make it up differently so that its more of a liquid. not sure on the details, i am sure someone else will let you know. but for me i used to dissolve a tablet of prevacid in a 10ml syringe of water so that when i gave it to him (he would drink straight from the syringe) i knew he was getting all the granules. at the end of the day of you are still worried about the vomiting i would suggest you go back to your pediatrician. good luck. its a hard road but well worth it in the end.
