View Full Version : reflux relapse
Hi all,
I just have a question for all of you out there with reflux babies. Have you experienced any relapses with the reflux after a long time of it being under control? I am really confused about my daughter's behavior. She is almost 10months old and has been on Prilosec and doing quite well for months now. For the last week she has gone back to wanting to be held all of the time, crying when she is supposed to be taking an afternoon nap and sometimes before bed too. The thing that has me concerned that it is the reflux is that she will fall right asleep in her swing--which is the same thing she was doing when her reflux was bothering her. Is it just teething and separation anxiety or could it be the reflux again? We are seeing her ped. today so hopefully we can get some answers. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

maybe she grew and needs her medication dose adjusted? When did her screaming stop? How old was she? I am going through it with Elise right now. She is 16 weeks old and I thought her screaming would have stopped by now. It has improved with meds but she won't nap for but an hour or so at a time and won't go to bed til 12-1 am. Ugh...it is really getting old! Anyway...hope the doctor can help you! Let us know how it goes!

Hi Mom2,
Have you made any other changes that may be resulting in this behavior? My son in now almost 16 months old and I remember he also seemed to be getting worse when he was alround 9 or 10 months. In his case, his spitting up was substantially more than it had been in a long time and also extended crankiness. I had been experimenting at that time with changing formulas trying to get him off the alimentum - anyway I found that that was not a good idea for him at that time. Also, he was eating more solids and that may have been causing more reflux (I Know that most people say that eating solids helps reflux). And probably most importantly he was teething - I had heard that the excess saliva from drooling and teething can sometimes aggrevate the reflux. Anyway, I am still not sure what exactly was causing his increased reflux and fussiness. I do know that I changed a few things here and there and like with the colic and other bad times, just waited it out. It did get better after about a month or so. It is good that you are going to the ped to make sure it is nothing more serious or something that can be easily fixed. At that time, I made an appt with a new ped GI - who said everything was fine. The peace of mind that there was nothing wrong helped and allowed me to wait it out. If you do find that is is teething - which would explain the crankiness and lack of desire to eat and drink- I found that Mortrin worked best since it lasted longer than Tylenol or Advil - especially at night. Well, I hope this helps somewhat. Hang in there!

Sounds almost exaclty what my son is going through...Don't know if it's the reflux coming back harder after introducing jar food or teething. He has been drooling a lot for about 3 months now but no teeth have shown up. We increased his dosage of Zantac and Reglan after his 6mo. checkup but everything started right after that. One thing that he is starting to do more now than ever is spiting up some of his food which he never did before. He had silent reflux, but we don't know if this is because he is becoming more active with rolling around from his back to his stomach.
Intresting comment on salavia from teething aggrevates the reflux more.

all i can add is that i was told that often after they have been sick the reflux flares up again and i also have noticed that Jacob is a particularly bad teether and he really needs to have pain relief or he is so unsettled. i dont kow if its him or a result of the reflux but he is such a light sleeper that any pain periods now and he reverts back to sleepless behaviour. hope you get to the bottom of it.
