Hello!
I am writing to say hello to all of you out there with colicky babies and to share what I have experienced if it may help. My son Michael will be 11 weeks on Tuesday and it seems like the colic is starting to subside somewhat, but slowly. I am so relieved that it has started to get somewhat better! He still screams or fusses off and on all day but has been sleeping a little more at night and has actually napped for more than 10 minutes once or twice. I think I am probably coping with it better as well. Like many of you I have tried EVERYTHING! I have tried several formulas (now we are using Carnation Good Start), gripe water, the Sleep Tight infant soother, Hylands colic tablets, white noise, bouncy seat, swing, napping on his stomach, Zantec, and probably some other things that I am forgetting at this point. So far it seems as if nothing really helps for any lenght of time. Some things have seemed to help but only for short periods of time. I think that the only cure is time. Now that we are at 11 weeks this is easy to say but if you told me that at 5 weeks I would have been devestated. At that point it seemed like 12 weeks would NEVER get here. Now we are close to what I hope is the end although I do understand that he still may have problems with gas, fussiness, sleeping, etc. for months to come. I would like to share some of the things that did help in hopes that it may help someone else.

1. Michael sleeps in his car seat in the crib with the Sleep Tight soother on. This helped ease the transition into the crib although some nights the only way he will get back to sleep is on my chest.

2. He loves loud music! Music seems to calm almost all the time. Contrary to what I have heard about colicky babies and overstimulation it seems as if Michael is happiest when he is very stimulated, i.e. in a loud restaurant, at the mall, in the car with the radio blasting, etc.

3. When his tummy is tight and full of gas he seems to like to sit up so I put him on my lap sitting straight up. He will scream at first but will calm down faster this way.

This is all for now. It is so refreshing to read that there are others out there who feel the same way I do. The helplessness, frustration, exhaustion, etc. This has been so hard! I can't believe that I have survived the last 11 weeks on an average of 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night! Isn't sleep deprivation how they torture prisoners of war???!!! Anyway I look forward to hearing replys from anyone who just wants to vent and wish all of you well.

Your baby sounds alot like my daughter Audrey, who will be 13 weeks this Monday. I THINK she is getting better, but the minute I say that, she will have a terribly colicky few days. We thought it was over a week ago, then it started all over again. The past few evenings have been tolerable, but not great. Good luck to you all. I continue to pray for everyone's colic to end!

Your son sounds a lot like my little boy, Bergin, he is 9 weeks and seems to be getting better (I hate to say this- I don't want to jinx myself!!) He would never sleep during the day for more than 10-15 minutes. Lately he has been napping a little bit better (30 min to an hour- twice a day). Last night he did great; he slept for 5 1/2 hours straight!! I couldn't believe it, but I know we still have a long way to go. He is still very fussy during the day but atleast now I can keep him entertained better. I hope the colic goes away soon. We are going out of town at the end of June & we have to fly. I am sure the plane ride will be an adventure.

I am also going to an infant massage class at a local hospital next week. I have heard massage may help colicky babies. We will see.
