What Medications are Available for Treating Baby Colic?

Babies suffering from colic are difficult to deal with because their non-stop crying makes parents feel helpless because they can't ease their baby's pain not to mention a bit crazy. Because of this it does not take many days of a colicky baby or in some cases many hours, before parents begin asking what medications are available for treating baby colic. And, there are some medications available, however it is not that simple because some medications work for certain babies' colic while they don't for others. This is because colic has many symptoms caused by a variety of things and you need to figure out what is causing your baby's colic or else try all the medications and remedies available until you find what works. All medications or natural remedies that are given to your child should be done so under the supervision of a pediatrician.

Colic is a mystery condition yet it causes severe pain and discomfort in your baby that is very disconcerting to parents unable to soothe their babies. Also, there is no cure for colic other than time, at least not one that has been proven yet. So, even if the following medications and suggestions don't help your baby you should see some results around four months of age when most babies simply outgrow colic. One instance, however, where medication might help a baby suffering from colic is those with GERD, gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Babies diagnosed with GERD are generally given drugs like Zantac that adults use for their ulcers, heartburn, and the like. If you take your colicky baby to the doctor and you are told your baby is suffering from GERD then you have some hope that Zantax or another similar drug will help soothe your baby's pain. Zantac and other drugs do not always cure GERD, but they frequently make the symptoms less severe which means your baby will still cry, but not as much and will be able to be soothed and comforted. Of course, if GERD is not your baby's diagnosis you are still seeking some way to help your baby feel better. In this instance your baby will more than likely benefit from one of the natural remedies.

Some natural remedies that have been successful at treating or calming colic in many babies include herbal teas like catnip, peppermint, and chamomile, massage, chiropractic adjustments, herbal remedies for colic as well as many others. There are many different colic symptoms and as a result different remedies are better suited to different symptoms. You should evaluate this with a homeopathy physician to help determine the best natural treatment for your baby. If you have tried everything for your baby's colic and nothing works then consider natural remedies because they might be the answer you are looking for.

Also, don't be shy and share this information with your friends and family members who have babies that might be suffering from colic as well. People believe they simply have to deal with their babies crying and discomfort until they grow out of it, but that is not entirely true because there are many natural remedies and conventional medicines that might work to make your baby feel better.
